Structural Columns

Architectural Columns from FineHouse are a basic building component for homes, buildings and structures of all types. We supply different kinds of columns for indoor and particularly outdoor use; Round and square columns are available in different materials with a selection of capitals and bases. FineHouse has developed a unique system for installing columns using an integral PostCore™. With structural PostCore™, column installation is simplified and structural integrity is assured. These architectural columns provide a low-maintenance structural solution for many building needs.

Round Tuscan Columns with entasis or "a taper", are made of a cast composite and are guaranteed against rot, insect damage and wear from the weather. The columns are also highly resistant to physical abrasion and fire. With optional PostCore™, installation is greatly simplified and structural qualities enhanced. Tuscan capital and base are included.

The 8 inch, round, Tuscan Column shown to the left has Doric capital and base with the PostCore™ shown. The 8" column is often used on projects of a smaller scale or grouped to achieve mass and an effect.

Additional note on PostCore™: The application and use of composite and fiberglass columns for structural use, is coming under increasing scrutiny by building officials nationwide. The ability of fiberglass or composite columns to resist lateral loads such as wind is negligable (see the ICC report ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA FOR FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMER (FRP) COMPOSITE COLUMNS USED AS AXIAL LOAD-BEARING AND NONLOAD-BEARING ARCHITECTURAL AND DECORATIVE COLUMNS). In particualar Sec 6.4 The answer to this dilema is the column with PostCore™ by FineHouse. In all cases, columns with PostCore™ can meet local code requirments when the PostCore™ is used as recommended by the local building official or structural engineer.

Square columns are available fabricated in a Mahogany, Cast Composite or SynCore™. These columns are very resistant to rot, insect damage and wear from the weather. The columns are also highly resistant to physical abrasion. With the integral PostCore™ installation is simplified and structural qualities enhanced.

Columns are available smooth, fluted, incised panel or rusticated.

Available in heights up to 14ft. (Taller columns available on special request)

Available in standard sizes up to 16" square.

Available split for existing post application or for use as a pilaster.

Cast composite columns come with a 20 year guarantee, all other columns carry a 1 year guarantee.

Additional note on PostCore™: The use of PostCore™ allows you to fasten columns more securely to beams, decks and floors. In addition, PostCore™ makes the installation of columns outdoors very easy - Dig a pier hole, stand up the column with the PostCore extending down into the pier hole, level and fill with crushed stone, Done.

Columns may be specified with different options to accommodate a range of field conditions and aesthetic requirements.

 

Round Column Options

Fluted is available

Tuscan Capital & Base are standard

Decorative capitals are optional:(see below)

The Attice base is optional

Split column are available (includes everything needed for re-assembly)

PostCores™ extend 24" at the bottom & 7-1/2" at the top as a standard. A wide range of custom options are available to meet specific site conditons.

Fire Rated columns are optional.

Wire chase and switch boxes are optional

Capitals and bases are supplied primed with copper flashing.

Capitals and bases are a cast composite with very low maintenance.

The Tuscan base is standard, the Attic base is optional.
